بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Every Muslim parent carries a profound responsibility: raising children who are righteous, healthy, knowledgeable, and close to Allah ﷻ. One of the most powerful tools given to us is dua (supplication) — a direct conversation with our Creator.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ consistently made dua for children — for his own family, for his Companions’ children, and for all believers. The Quran itself is filled with the heartfelt supplications of great Prophets who prayed for righteous offspring. This page collects those authentic duas, organised by purpose, so you can make them part of your daily life.

Whether you are expecting a child, raising a toddler, or guiding a teenager, these supplications form a spiritual shield and a source of divine barakah (blessing) for your family.

Why Dua for Children Matters in Islam

Supplication for one’s children is a Prophetic tradition rooted deep in the Quran and Sunnah.

📖

Quranic Foundation

Prophets Ibrahim, Zakariyyah, and Sulaiman (AS) all made specific duas for righteous children — recorded forever in the Quran.

🛡️

Spiritual Protection

Dua creates an invisible shield around your child against the evil eye, harm, and the whispers of Shaytan.

💚

Parental Obligation

Islam teaches that a parent’s dua for their child is among the three supplications that are never rejected (Tirmidhi).

🤲

Ongoing Sadaqah

Raising a righteous child who makes dua for you after your death is one of the greatest forms of continuous charity.

🌱

Early Habit Building

Teaching children to make dua plants seeds of tawakkul and gratitude that grow into a lifelong connection with Allah.

Accepted Prayer

The Prophet ﷺ said the dua of a parent for their child is answered without doubt — a mercy from Allah ﷻ to every parent.

ثَلاَثُ دَعَوَاتٍ مُسْتَجَابَاتٌ لاَ شَكَّ فِيهِنَّ دَعْوَةُ الْوَالِدِ لِوَلَدِهِ

“Three duas are accepted without doubt: the dua of a parent for their child, the dua of the oppressed, and the dua of the traveller.”
— Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 3862 | Graded Hasan

“When a person dies, all his deeds come to an end except three: ongoing charity, knowledge that benefits others, and a righteous child who prays for him.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best dua for children in Islam?
The most comprehensive and beloved dua for children is Rabbana hab lana min azwajina wa dhurriyyatina qurrata a’yunin (Quran 25:74), which asks Allah to make our spouses and children the joy of our eyes and to make us leaders of the righteous. For protection, the Prophet ﷺ’s dua for Hasan and Husain (Bukhari 3371) is highly recommended. Many scholars advise reciting both regularly.
Which dua should I recite for my child’s protection from evil eye?
The Prophet ﷺ would say: U’idhukuma bi kalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammatin, wa min kulli ‘aynin lammah — “I seek refuge for you both in the Perfect Words of Allah from every devil and every beast, and from every envious blameworthy eye.” (Bukhari 3371). Recite Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas daily and blow over the child. Recite Ayat al-Kursi before sleep.
Can children make dua in their own language?
Yes, absolutely. The majority of scholars permit making dua in any language, especially outside of salah. Encouraging children to speak to Allah in their own language builds a personal, heartfelt connection. The key is sincerity and presence of heart. Memorising Arabic duas is excellent, but never let it replace the child’s spontaneous personal supplication — which is perhaps the most beautiful form of ibadah.
Is there a specific dua for a child before exams or learning?
Yes — Rabbi zidni ilma (Quran 20:114) is the simplest and most direct dua for increasing knowledge. Before studying, recite: Allahummanfa’ni bima ‘allamtani, wa ‘allimni ma yanfa’uni, wa zidni ilma (Ibn Majah 251). For Quran memorisation, Allahummaj’alil-Qur’ana rabi’a qalbi (Ahmad 3712) is highly recommended. These are all verified in authentic hadith collections.
How do I teach young children to make dua?
Start with the atmosphere — recite duas aloud so children absorb them passively from infancy. Around age 4–5, teach short duas through repetition and songs. Always explain the meaning in age-appropriate terms. Make dua together as a family so children see it as normal and beloved. Praise them when they remember dua on their own. Never make it feel like a burden — the goal is love for Allah, not rote memorisation alone.
What does Islam say about making dua for an unborn child?
Making dua for a child before and during pregnancy is a beautiful Sunnah. Recite Rabbi hab li milladunka dhurriyyatan tayyibah (Quran 3:38 — Dua of Prophet Zakariyyah AS) throughout pregnancy. Read Surah Maryam and Surah Yusuf regularly — scholars note their spiritual impact on the unborn child and the mother. Also recite the protection duas daily for the safety of the pregnancy.
