Hajj 2026 —
The Complete Pilgrim’s Guide
Your essential resource for Hajj 1447 AH: confirmed key dates, step-by-step rituals, Nusuk registration, duas, packing essentials, and everything you need to answer the divine call with confidence and peace of heart.
What Is Hajj & Why Does It Matter?
Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam — an obligatory annual pilgrimage to the holy city of Makkah that every adult Muslim who is physically and financially able must undertake at least once in their lifetime.
More than a journey, Hajj is a spiritual transformation. It re-enacts the trials of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his family, draws together Muslims from every nation, language, and background, and offers every pilgrim a profound opportunity for repentance, renewal, and closeness to Allah ﷻ.
In 2026 (1447 AH), the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah continues to refine its digital-first Nusuk platform, making registration, permitting, and logistics more streamlined than ever. This pillar hub page covers everything from confirmed dates and essential rituals to registration steps, packing lists, recommended duas, and authoritative external resources.
“And proclaim the Hajj to all people — they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel, arriving from every distant mountain pass.”
— Surah Al-Hajj, 22:27
Hajj: The Fifth Pillar of Islam
Hajj stands alongside Shahadah, Salah, Zakat, and Sawm as one of the five fundamental acts of worship in Islam.
Hajj 2026 Key Dates & Daily Schedule
Based on the Umm Al-Qura astronomical calendar (1447 AH). All dates subject to official moon-sighting confirmation by Saudi authorities. Always verify with Nusuk and your licensed tour operator.
Arrival in Saudi Arabia
International pilgrims arrive in Makkah or Madinah. Most packages begin here. Last permitted international entry: 21 May 2026 (4 Dhul-Hijjah). Visit the Prophet’s Mosque ﷺ in Madinah if arriving early.
قُدُومٌ وَزِيَارَةُ الْمَدِينَةِ الْمُنَوَّرَةِEnter Ihram → Travel to Mina
Pilgrims enter the sacred state of Ihram at their designated Miqat, recite the Talbiyah, and travel to Mina, where they spend the day and night in prayer and reflection, offering Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr (each in its shortened form).
🌅 Yawm Arafah — Day of Arafah
The most sacred day of the Islamic year. Pilgrims stand at the Plain of Arafat from after midday until sunset, supplicating, weeping, and seeking Allah’s mercy. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Hajj is Arafah.” (Tirmidhi). After sunset, pilgrims proceed to Muzdalifah for the night.
الْحَجُّ عَرَفَةُEid al-Adha · Stoning · Sacrifice · Tawaf al-Ifadah
The greatest day of the Islamic calendar. Pilgrims perform Ramy al-Jamarat (stoning of the largest pillar), Qurbani (animal sacrifice), shave/cut hair, and return to Makkah for Tawaf al-Ifadah and Sa’i. They then return to Mina.
Ayyam al-Tashreeq — Days of Tashreeq
Pilgrims remain in Mina and stone all three Jamarat each day after midday. Those wishing to depart early may leave after stoning on 28 May (12 Dhul-Hijjah) before sunset. Remaining until the 13th earns greater reward.
Farewell Tawaf (Tawaf al-Wada)
The final obligatory act before leaving Makkah. Pilgrims perform seven circuits of the Kaaba as a farewell. Departure window: from 31 May 2026 (14 Dhul-Hijjah). Many then travel to Madinah for Ziyarat (optional visits to sacred sites).
⚠️ All dates are estimates based on the Umm Al-Qura calendar. Final confirmation depends on official moon-sighting in Saudi Arabia. Always verify at hajj.nusuk.sa.
The 8 Essential Rituals of Hajj
Each ritual of Hajj carries profound symbolic meaning rooted in the Quran and Sunnah. Understanding the why behind each act deepens your spiritual connection.
1. Ihram
الإِحْرَامُThe sacred state of consecration entered at the Miqat. Men wear two seamless white cloths; women dress modestly. Ihram represents the equality of all Muslims before Allah — no rank, no wealth, no status.
2. Tawaf al-Qudum
طَوَافُ الْقُدُومِUpon arriving in Makkah, pilgrims perform seven counter-clockwise circuits of the Kaaba. Begin and end at the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad). A moment of overwhelming awe and unity for every pilgrim.
3. Sa’i
السَّعْيُSeven back-and-forth walks between the hills of Safa and Marwah, commemorating Hajar (RA), the mother of Prophet Ismail (AS), in her desperate search for water — answered by the miraculous spring of Zamzam.
4. Mina (Yawm Tarwiyah)
مِنَىPilgrims travel to the tent city of Mina on 8 Dhul-Hijjah and spend the day and night there in remembrance of Allah. The city of Mina is less than 8km from the Masjid al-Haram.
5. Wuquf — Arafat
وُقُوفُ عَرَفَةَThe spiritual pinnacle of Hajj. Standing on the Plain of Arafat on 9 Dhul-Hijjah symbolises the Day of Judgement. Allah descends (in a manner befitting His Majesty) and forgives all those present. Do not miss this.
6. Muzdalifah
الْمُزْدَلِفَةُAfter sunset at Arafat, pilgrims travel to Muzdalifah where they pray Maghrib and Isha together, sleep under the open sky, and collect 70 small pebbles for the Ramy ritual. A night of humility and gratitude.
7. Ramy al-Jamarat
رَمْيُ الْجَمَرَاتِThe symbolic stoning of the devil — pilgrims throw pebbles at three stone pillars representing the spots where Shaytaan tried to dissuade Prophet Ibrahim (AS). On Eid day, seven pebbles are thrown at the largest pillar (Jamarat al-Aqabah).
8. Tawaf al-Wada
طَوَافُ الْوَدَاعِThe Farewell Tawaf is the final obligatory act before leaving Makkah. Seven circuits of the Kaaba with a heart full of longing and gratitude — leaving behind a place that will never leave your heart.
Essential Duas for Your Hajj Journey
These authentic duas, drawn from the Quran and Sunnah, are especially powerful during the days of Hajj — when the doors of acceptance are wide open.
“Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am.”
“There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion, His is all praise, and He is over all things capable.”
“Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire.”
“Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest — and all praise is for Allah.”
“In the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest.” — recited with each of the seven pebbles.
“O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, abundant provision, and a cure from every illness.”
