Islamic Pregnancy Due Date
Calculator — Hijri Calendar
Calculate your pregnancy due date in both Gregorian and Hijri (Islamic) calendars. Track your baby’s journey through Islamic months with week-by-week milestones, trimester dates, and pregnancy duas.
Pregnancy Due Date Calculator
ℹ️ Enter the first day of your last menstrual period. This is the most common method used by healthcare providers.
ℹ️ Average menstrual cycle is 28 days. Adjusting this improves accuracy.
ℹ️ The luteal phase typically lasts 14 days. Used to calculate ovulation date.
ℹ️ If you know your conception or ovulation date, this method provides highly accurate results. Add 266 days (38 weeks) to get your due date.
ℹ️ Enter the gestational age shown on your ultrasound report. Ultrasound dating is most accurate in the first trimester (before 14 weeks).

Islamic Pregnancy Due Date Calculator: A Complete Guide
Pregnancy is one of the most profound blessings Allah ﷻ bestows upon a family. For Muslim mothers, understanding their pregnancy journey through both the Gregorian and Hijri (Islamic) calendar adds a meaningful spiritual dimension to the physical experience. Our Islamic pregnancy due date calculator bridges this gap, providing accurate due date estimates in both calendar systems with week-by-week tracking.
Allah ﷻ says in Surah Al-Mu’minun (23:12-14): “And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay. Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging. Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made from the lump bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators.”
How Does the Islamic Pregnancy Due Date Calculator Work?
Our tool uses three scientifically validated methods to calculate your estimated due date (EDD), then converts the result to the Hijri calendar using a precise astronomical algorithm:
Method 1: Last Menstrual Period (LMP) — Naegele’s Rule
The most widely used method in obstetrics, established by German obstetrician Franz Karl Naegele in the 19th century. It calculates the EDD as: LMP + 280 days (40 weeks). Our calculator adjusts this based on your actual cycle length — women with cycles shorter or longer than 28 days receive a more accurate estimate. Research published in BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology confirms this adjustment improves accuracy by up to 5 days.
Method 2: Conception / Ovulation Date
If you know your conception or ovulation date — through ovulation tracking, fertility treatments, or signs of ovulation — add 266 days (38 weeks) to calculate your due date. This method is highly accurate because it measures from actual fertilization. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recognizes this as a valid dating method.
Method 3: Ultrasound Dating
Ultrasound is considered the gold standard for pregnancy dating, particularly when performed before 14 weeks gestation. The sonographer measures the Crown-Rump Length (CRL) or Biparietal Diameter (BPD) to determine gestational age. Our tool works backward from the ultrasound date to calculate the LMP equivalent, then projects the EDD and converts it to the Hijri calendar.
Understanding the Hijri (Islamic) Calendar in Pregnancy
The Hijri calendar (التقويم الهجري) is a purely lunar calendar consisting of 12 months in a year of 354 or 355 days. This makes the Hijri year approximately 10–11 days shorter than the Gregorian solar year. Consequently, Islamic dates shift earlier through the Gregorian calendar each year.
| Feature | Hijri Calendar (Lunar) | Gregorian Calendar (Solar) |
|---|---|---|
| Year Length | 354–355 days | 365–366 days |
| Month Length | 29–30 days (lunar cycle) | 28–31 days (fixed) |
| Month Start | Moon sighting / astronomical | Fixed (January 1, etc.) |
| Pregnancy Duration | ~9.5 Hijri months | ~9 calendar months (40 weeks) |
| Annual Shift | ~11 days earlier each year | Fixed |
For Muslim families, knowing the Islamic month of birth holds significance — births in sacred months (Muharram, Rajab, Dhu al-Qi’dah, Dhu al-Hijjah) or in Ramadan are considered especially blessed. Many parents plan the aqiqah, naming ceremony, and circumcision dates using the Hijri calendar.
Islamic Rulings on Pregnancy: What Every Muslim Mother Should Know
The Four Stages of Fetal Development in Islam
Based on the hadith narrated by ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) in Sahih Al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ described fetal development in distinct stages:
- Nuṭfah (نُطْفَة) — Weeks 1–6: The sperm-drop stage, representing fertilization and early cell division.
- ‘Alaqah (عَلَقَة) — Weeks 7–9: The clinging clot — the embryo clings to the uterine wall, corresponding to implantation and placental formation.
- Muḍghah (مُضْغَة) — Weeks 10–12: The lump of flesh — referring to the visible embryonic mass when the body begins forming recognizable features.
- Rūḥ Breathed In — After 120 Days (17 Weeks): According to the majority of scholars following this hadith, the soul is breathed into the fetus after 120 days, though some scholars (Imam Ibn Qayyim) argued 40 days based on other narrations. After this point, the fetus is considered a full human being with all associated Islamic rights.
Modern embryology’s descriptions of fetal development align remarkably with the Quranic stages described 1,400 years ago, a correlation extensively documented by the late Professor Keith Moore in his work with the Embryology Committee of King Abdulaziz University. See: PubMed — Embryology and the Quran.
Fasting During Pregnancy (Ramadan)
Islam permits pregnant women to break their fast during Ramadan if fasting poses a risk to themselves or their baby, with the obligation to make up the missed fasts later (fidyah may also apply). Our Hijri calendar integration shows whether your pregnancy intersects with Ramadan, helping you plan accordingly with your healthcare provider and Islamic scholar. The Islamic Fiqh ruling on fasting during pregnancy is well-documented across all four major madhabs.
Birth Practices in Islam
- Adhan & Iqamah: The call to prayer is recited into the newborn’s right ear, and the Iqamah into the left — symbolically welcoming the child into the fold of Islam.
- Tahnik: A small piece of softened date is placed on the newborn’s palate — a Sunnah from the Prophet ﷺ (recorded in Sahih Al-Bukhari).
- Naming: Preferably on the 7th day. Islamic scholars recommend names with beautiful meanings that reflect servitude to Allah.
- Aqiqah: Sacrificing two sheep for a boy and one for a girl on the 7th day after birth (or 14th, 21st) — a Sunnah Mu’akkadah (confirmed Sunnah).
- Circumcision (Khitan): For baby boys, considered a Sunnah of the Fitrah (natural disposition), ideally performed on the 7th day.
Accuracy of Islamic Due Date Calculators
It is important to understand that no due date calculator — Islamic or otherwise — can predict the exact birth date. Statistical data from large-cohort studies shows that only approximately 4% of births occur on the calculated due date. Approximately 80% of births occur within two weeks of the EDD in either direction.
Always consult your obstetric healthcare provider for clinical confirmation of your due date. Our calculator provides an estimate for planning purposes, particularly for Islamic month tracking, naming ceremony planning, and spiritual preparation.
